69ɫ Becomes the First University in Central Asia to Receive a Bronze STARS Rating for Sustainability

February 4, 2025

The Sustainable Development Program of the Center for Civic Engagement is proud to announce that the American University of Central Asia has received a Bronze rating from the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), awarded by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). 69ɫ is the first university in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia to achieve this recognition!

STARS is a globally recognized framework for measuring sustainability performance in higher education. The Bronze rating affirms 69ɫ’s commitment to sustainability in five key areas: academic curriculum, engagement, operations, planning and administration, as well as innovation and leadership. This achievement highlights the university’s dedication to a sustainable future and opens new opportunities for strategic development.

We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to this success. A special appreciation goes to our former Sustainability Coordinator, Mira Dzhakshylykova, for her invaluable work. We wish her the best in her new role as a Junior Climate Change Specialist at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Moving forward, 69ɫ’s sustainability efforts will be led by our new Sustainability Coordinator, Tolgonai Elemanova. She has experience in environmental and sustainability projects in Central Asia and has collaborated with international organizations.

Congratulations to the 69ɫ community on this significant achievement! We look forward to continuing our journey toward a more sustainable future.
