About the Journalism and Mass Communications Department

The Journalism and Mass Communications Department is a multifaceted program devoted to the preparation of their students for the real world, and the development of their student’s experience. Students of the JMC department will perfect their reporting and researching skills, as well as their innovative and media-managing skills, and can choose a concentration in either data journalism or public relations and marketing.

In choosing a concentration in the field of data journalism, you would be immersing yourself in the world of numbers, data and research- taught only by the most professional data journalists. Choosing a concentration in the field of public relations provides you with the opportunity to get hands-on experience in the public relations job sphere as a student, and our public relations professor will work together with you to enhance the emotional intelligence and communication skills that are required to work successfully in PR.

The JMC department provides students with the tools needed to open up new professional capabilities in today's complex, competitive career roles in media.

As a student in the Journalism and Mass Communications program, you will:

  • Learn the art of reporting and telling rich news stories across a wide range of different media
  • Receive training in data journalism, ask hard questions, and become able to conduct in-depth interviews
  • Gain exposure and experience in the glamorous field of public relations and social media marketing
  • Perfect your experience working with multimedia equipment, such as cameras, recording equipment, studios.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge you need to become an esteemed storyteller in any field you pursue- from newswriting, to blogging, to social media mass marketing.
