Junior student Salima Almazbekova became the co-author of the article about floods in Kazakhstan published in the investigative journalism outlet ‘Bellingcat’.
Recently Kazakhstan faced flooding which is being described as the worst to hit the region in 80 years.
Salima geolocated the coordinates of dozens of villages and towns in Kazakhstan where the floods occurred. After that, she worked with satellite images to identify the scale of the floods in different regions of the country. Salima developed her Open Source Intelligence skills two years ago during her participation in the Central Asian Journalism Institute.
