Senior Capstone Project – Research on Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abdurauf Giiazidinov (2023-2024)

During my senior thesis project, I encountered the need for funding to build a physical model of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). To achieve this, I applied for the Senior Capstone Project Grant and was awarded $500 to support my research.

The next step was participating in the STEM Design Contest, an international competition sponsored by Gyeonggi-Do Province (South Korea). This competition focused on developing innovative solutions in environmental science and STEM fields. Our project secured 2nd place, receiving additional funding.

Thanks to these grants and the invaluable support of my research advisor, Prof. Taalaibek Imanaliev, we significantly improved the mathematical model of DSSCs. Based on our calculations, we ordered a physical model from the Swiss company Solaronix, enabling further research and validation of our theoretical findings.

This experience not only enhanced my research skills but also demonstrated the critical importance of combining theoretical analysis with practical experimentation in the field of renewable energy.
