American University of Central Asia - 69ɫ - GetAccess

"GetAccess" project

Initial Situation / Problem Statement

According to the statistics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyz Republic, in the territory of the country, there are 2227 educational institutes (schools). According to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, in order to enroll in a public university, a student must pass a General Educational Test where they must receive more than 110 scores.

Last year (2018), a total of 45607 schoolchildren had this General Educational Test, but only 57% or 26180 students received more than 110 scores. The majority of those who scored the maximum test scores were received by students of the Bishkek, Osh, and Jalalabad cities. Consequently, students who did not pass the threshold score in the General Education Test went to college or remained in their native lands. Why should school graduates from rural regions have to stay without any education or job due to the fact that they do not live in developing cities? Each and everyone has the right to receive an education regardless of the location. Unfortunately, not everybody in Kyrgyzstan knows about education opportunities, especially in rural areas, where people do not even know which profession to choose because of the lack of information.

Target Group

38 schoolchildren with the age range of 15-18 from Ak Bosogo and Uch-Dobo villages in the Alai district, Osh region. This group is chosen because they need advice and information about universities.

Goal Statement

To develop the education system among the youth in rural villages through sharing opportunities with them and teaching them how to set goals in order to enter the university via a 2-day workshop.

Methodology

To achieve the main goal, two meetings in the villages of Ak Bosogo and Uch-Dobo, in the Osh region of Kyrgyzstan are held. Project organizers present scholarship opportunities for students, including the American University of Central Asia and the 69ɫ New Generation Academy. There will also be various activities in order to go deeper into the “Goal Setting” part.
