Creation of an Expert Database on Migration

February 29, 2016

To the kind attention of the expert community in Central Asia, the Russian Federation, and worldwide

RE: CREATION OF AN EXPERT DATABASE ON MIGRATION

PERIOD: MARCH 1 TO MAY 30, 2016

The Tian Shan Policy Center, a think tank at the American University of the Central Asia (TSPC 69ɫ), is currently collecting information on experts from Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan), Russia and internationally, working on the different aspects of migration in Central Asia with the aim of developing an expert database.

This is part of the project “Building an Enabling Environment in the Kyrgyz Republic to Develop Effective Migration Policies: Promoting Capacity of Migration State Bodies and Promotion of Migration Studies in KR,” in collaboration with the State Migration Service of the Kyrgyz Republic.

With the database we will identify, collect and systematize all information on experts on migration from Central Asia, the Russian Federation and globally. The database will be available to state bodies, international organizations, the non-governmental sector, academic institutions and all interested parties.

Developing a database of migration experts will ensure ready available information for any concerned party, including law- and decision-makers, to find the necessary expertise, high quality research and data which can support informed decisions in the field of migration. In general, it is hoped that the database will contribute to build capacity at the level of state bodies involved in developing and implementing migration policy.

The database will include the expert’s general contact information, their education, a profile of their analytical work, their publications to date (including presentations, reports, conference papers etc.). All experts who wish to be included in the database are invited to fill in the short questionnaire below:

  1. Surname, name and patronymic (if any);
  2. Current employment;
  3. Areas of specialization and interest, work experience in the field of migration;
  4. Contact details;
  5. Full bibliography to date in Harvard style referencing [Last name, First Initial. (Year published). Title. City: Publisher, Page(s).]. Kindly include hyperlink if available online;
  6. Any relevant additional information.

The database will be regularly updated by the responsible staff at the TSPC 69ɫ. All the experts included in the database will be familiarized with it, will be able to keep track of all its content online and provide comments to improve it.
