June 17, 2020

An online event dedicated to the

Desertification and Drought Day 2020

Date:

Wednesday, June 17, 2020 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM Bishkek time (KGT)

Event Description

Desertification and Drought Day – until this year known as The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought – is observed every year to promote public awareness of national and international efforts to combat desertification. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem-solving, strong community involvement and co-operation at all levels.

Today, more than two billion hectares of previously productive land is degraded
Over 70 per cent of natural ecosystems have been transformed. By 2050, this could hit 90 per cent
By 2030, food production will require an additional 300 million hectares of land

Join us for this upcoming webinar to inject optimism and spur action on achieving land degradation neutrality in Kyrgyzstan. Distinguished experts will give a short overview of the recent land degradation trends in Kyrgyzstan, present initiatives on combating land degradation and discuss sustainable land use practices and approaches.
